I now have a sense of purpose

Sara was given Oxycontin while in the hospital after a painful pregnancy and delivery.  Once her supply was gone she looked for something else to dull her pain and soon started using herion.  After using for about a year, she became pregnant.  It was this pregnancy and the impending baby that motivated her to get treatment for her substance use disorder.

Determined to get the help she needed to be the mother she wanted to be, Sara began treatment at Life Guidance Medication-Assisted Treatment program.  “I want to scream from the hilltops how great this place is.  This place is my family. All of the counselors are very supportive.”

Sara is now clean and renewing her interests in art and poetry.  In addition, she has started a support group, the “Honesty Group,” for fellow clients of the Life Guidance’s Medication-Assisted Treatment program.  Her advocacy of a drug-free life has worked to inspire others, including a drug dealer who has renewed his commitment to sobriety.  Sara’s inner strength and resolve is clear when she talks of how far she’s come and how far she wants to go.  Sara is now enrolled at a local university and plans to major in social work so that she can help others recover from substance use disorders.

“This place gave me such a foundation; I know it’s changed me.  For the first time in my life I now have a sense of purpose.”
