About Life Guidance Services
Background
In operation since 1893, Life Guidance Services is a nonprofit organization that provides counseling, employee assistance services, and wellness and prevention programs. We are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, Inc. (COA) and are licensed by the State of Michigan Bureau of Health Systems. We are proud to be a Heart of West Michigan United Way Partner Agency which allows us to serve clients through a sliding fee scale, based of their financial ability. We are a provider for Network180 (CMH) and are contracted with most local and national HMO’s as well as traditional insurance companies.

Evidence-Based Treatment Within a Relationship of Compassion
A recent emphasis in general medicine and counseling is to provide the patient with interventions which have been proven to be effective for the patient’s specific presenting problem. We at LGS recognize the importance of evidence-based treatment and we are committed to increasing our compliance with proven intervention procedures. Evidence-based treatment is the wave of our future. Every client has the right to expect that he/she will be given the opportunity to be a partner in a person-centered treatment plan that includes interventions that have been proven to be effective. But we will not reduce treatment to simply mechanically administering a set of proven procedures; we will not lose sight of the importance of and the need for a relationship of compassion. The power of the healing touch of kindness and a relationship based in unconditional positive regard must not be underestimated. People have a need to feel understood, cared for, listened to.
